Our Mission
GAPA Theatre is an intergenerational collective of QTAPI writers, performers and storytellers. We mentor emerging artists, and those interested in the performing arts and theater, by supporting their artistic development through skills building and technical workshops in writing, acting and directing, as well as producing public readings of works-in-progress and full-length performances for both virtual and in-person audiences.

Experience "Echoes in the Diaspora," a powerful, multi-disciplinary showcase recorded live on Saturday, June 15, 2024, at Z Space in San Francisco. Presented by GAPA Theatre and the GAPA Men’s Chorus, this performance brings together community-based artists to celebrate queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander (QTAPI) history, identity, and memories.
Through a vibrant blend of music, contemporary dance, spoken word poetry, and dramatic vignettes, the artists explore what it means to carry heritage across borders and generations. This showcase was proudly featured as part of the 27th annual United States of Asian America Festival, in partnership with the Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Center (APICC).

Hearts and Minds: A QTAPI Community Conversation Series
GAPA Theatre recently hosted a three-session series of intergenerational conversations with LGBTQ Asians and Pacific Islanders and their allies. The sessions included panelists who are community leaders, activists, artists, and educators. These esteemed individuals held space for important conversations that embrace our experiences of the dual pandemics of HIV/AIDS and COVID-19; our histories as Asians and Pacific Islanders in the U.S.; our past and current role in community organizing and the political process; as well as other issues that are part of the current cultural and political shifts and relevant to our experiences QTAPI individuals.
