Justin Sha Announces Candidacy for Fremont Mayor

Fremont, CA - Justin Sha has officially announced his candidacy for Fremont Mayor.  Sha is already being supported by the Fremont Unified District Teachers Association, and a number of local activist groups including the Gay Asian Pacific Alliance (GAPA), East Bay Stonewall Democratic Club, South Alameda County Young Democrats, and the Tri-Cities Democratic Forum.

“Justin Sha understands that what makes Fremont great is its people,” said Nina Moore, former President of the Fremont Unified School District Board of Trustees.  “His priorities are their well-being and their quality of life — from COVID-19 response, to ensuring that the civil rights and safety of all Fremont’s citizens are protected, to creating affordable and middle income housing so that Fremont’s service workers and youth workforce are not forced to move elsewhere.  A city is most vibrant when people of all ages and backgrounds choose to make it home.  Justin is the voice of Fremont’s future.”

“I am running because I am a native son of Fremont, and it hurts me to see the direction our beloved city is going.  Rather than career politicians serving themselves, the citizens of Fremont deserve to have their voices heard and opinions respected,” said Sha.  “Transparency in government means proactively seeking public input before major decisions are made—not after.  I am running to ensure the residents of Fremont are given a COVID-19 response that is transparent, where people can see the data and make informed decisions.  We need smart growth.  That means housing proximate to public transit that is affordable to residents, not continuing with the trend of building one million-dollar condos in places that don’t make sense.  I am running to make Fremont a more inclusive, safe place to live for all residents, including our immigrant communities and communities of color.  Please join Fremont Teachers, activists, and community leaders in supporting my candidacy for Mayor.  I would be honored to earn your support.  Together, we can build a brighter future for Fremont.”

Justin Sha is challenging the incumbent Mayor, who previously served on the School Board prior to City Council. On Fremont School Board, the incumbent Mayor was a part of the 3-2 majority vote against Harvey Milk Day in 2010, and in 2012, she voted to ban books in FUSD schools, including Angels in America.

On Friday, September 4th, Justin Sha’s campaign will hold a virtual campaign kick-off to lay out his vision for the City of Fremont. This event is open to the public and contributions are encouraged:
